Cathy Cooney
Cathy Cooney has been a physiotherapist for nearly 30 years. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1997 and spent the earlier part of her career working in private practice, treating orthopaedic, post-surgical and sports injuries for all ages.
In 2006, Cathy found the thing she was truly passionate about: pelvic floor physiotherapy. As one of the first pelvic floor physiotherapists in the Ottawa area, she and her colleagues worked hard to engage the medical community and the public, hoping to increase the awareness of the important benefits of Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy. Since then, she’s continued building her knowledge in Pelvic Health, combining it with her background in orthopaedics to treat the whole person.
In 2008, Cathy became Co-Owner of multidisciplinary clinic in south Ottawa, which she operated and grew for 11 years. These days she’s semi-retired and working part-time in clinical practice — and she’s excited to join the PHS team to help train the next generation of Pelvic Health Physios.
Currently Cathy is working with patients assigned female at birth experiencing pelvic pain, urinary or faecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapses, and those who are pregnant or post-partum.
Cathy is a self-proclaimed life-long learner who’s always taking courses and additional training to stay current in Pelvic Health. Her approach is holistic and trauma-informed, blending evidence-based techniques with genuine empathy for each patient.
Outside of work, Cathy enjoys being active by going the gym, hiking, biking, finding quiet time reading, and spending time with her husband and grown-up son and daughter whenever and as much as she can.
