Menopause
Menopause is a normal condition that occurs when your menstrual period has stopped for one year, meaning no more bleeding or spotting. The period of time leading up to this transition is called perimenopause. During this time, the levels of the ovarian hormone (estrogen) in your body are changing. There is a range of when menopause begins and how long it can last for each woman, but this transition often takes an average of four years. Menopause is considered a normal part of aging when it happens after the age of 40, but it can start earlier as a result of surgery, such as a hysterectomy or treatments such as chemotherapy which affect the function of the ovaries.
